AutoCAD Tutorial: Xref editing and layers on-off

In todays video I go over how to turn off specific layers in an xref (external reference) without having to ever open the external drawing. This trick can come in handy when you’re working with big xrefs that have a lot of layers. You can easily just turn off the ones you don’t want and the changes wont affect the original drawing.

I had been asked how to do this a few times recently in readers emails and decided I should make a video in case anyone else has been having the same problem.

I also go through how use the edit in place command as well as the open command when you want to make changes to one of your external reference drawings. Both of these commands have their advantages and I’ll show you how to use them both.

In my experience I tend to use the edit in place command for quick and smaller changes, but will open an xref for any major edits or if the drawing is very large and would cause a lagging issue if I edit it in place.
