Day 10: DIY Graphic Design – Photoshop
Todays topic is going to be affordable site images and graphics. When you think graphics a lot of people start thinking complicated software, oddball graphic designers and ” graphics are something they can’t do” Well I’m going clear up a few things about how connected graphic design and blogging really are.
Everything about blogging has a design aspect to it from how you lay out your posts to the slight tweaks and changes you make to your images and ev
en the elaborately designed Title Banner you’ve put up.
Each and every blogger has done some form of graphic design while setting up there blog (choosing placement, color scheme, and even fonts) and it shouldn’t be thought of as a professionals only job. If you really want to make your blog stand out you’ll start thinking like a designer when you choose your post images and graphics.
What I’m getting at is that as a new blogger and maybe even a computer new comer you should embrace your creative side and take a shot at spr
ucing up your blog through images and design. All it takes is a little time and effort and I know you’ll be editing photos for your tutorials and making up new graphics for your categories and posts in no time.
I showed the example of my new banner in the post about branding your blog this is not a complicated design in the least! Its was easily made in photoshop in less than an hour and pretty much anyone can do it. I know the first thing most people think when I say photoshop is expensive! Well I
won’t lie the full blown version of photoshop is expensive and to be honest probably not worth the cost if your not looking to make money as a graphic designer. But very few people realize that Adobe has a cheaper light version of photoshop for just this reason;Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 (Win/Mac) is a toned down version of photoshop geared towards the casual user that simply needs to tweak, edit, and enhance pictures and basic designs. It really does do most of the work, a simple google search for tutorials is all the average beginner needs to be able to produce a pro quality looking image.
The program is currently on sale at amazon for an awesome deal that’s less than $100! It would be crazy not to take advantage of this deal right now and if I didn’t already have photoshop I’d be first in line. And to be honest I might just pick up a copy to give as a present come christmas… Anyways check it out before the price goes up I know you or a photographer friend of yours will love it.
Just Remember the more memorable your blog, or website the more visitors that are going to come back, just something to think about.
