Today I’m going to a brief rundown on using Craigslist to find freelance work. While you particular service, or talent probably won’t be the same as mine (Graphic Design) whichever you choose I know it will be helpful.
Using Craigslist can be a great way to find new work and even the occasional big client. While finding a regular client on Craigslist is not all that common it can still be a valuable resource to help keep you busy as a freelance designer.
Start by browsing the ads in your area for anyone looking for design work. It could be anything from band posters to a start-up logo or letterhead. Every ad you can apply for improves your chances at getting a few extra jobs to fill up your schedule.
The next step to fully utilizing Craigslist is to look in the services provided category. Start checking out how some other freelancers in your area are promoting them selves, from this you can start work on posting your own services offered ad. And don’t forget to post links to your site and portfolio that you’ve been working.
I’ve been using Craigslist to fill my spare time between regular clients and my full-time job for about 6 months now. While it doesn’t provide a steady flow of work it does help keep me busy. And since starting I’ve done around $2500 of work just from my Craigslist ad and applying to posted gigs.
So start checking it out and let me know how your Craigslist search goes.
Cheers,
Brandon Loehr
