Kramskoy – “Portrait of Solovyov”

Vladimir Sergeevich Soloviev, the son of the famous historian Sergei Solovyov, is a humanist, poet and philosopher who openly opposed the use of the death penalty for the murderers of Alexander II and a great friend of Ivan Kramskoy, who in 1881 painted his magnificent portrait. The artist depicted the thinker sitting in a carved armchair. An intelligent face with thick black hair, an aristocratic nose, deep eyes. The work is dominated by a dark ultramarine color (suit, hair), reminiscent of some of Vrubel’s works.

The uniqueness of Kramskoy’s portraits lies in the vision of the internal state of the models.
