Kuindzhi – “Early Spring”

Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi, a famous Russian and Ukrainian landscape painter, painted the painting “Early Spring” in 1895. In the foreground of this remarkable work, the artist depicted a river that is throwing off its winter ice shackles. Winter is losing ground, the ice is badly cracked and will soon melt completely. Many thawed patches, also depicted by the artist in the foreground, tell us about the last days of winter. The buds on the trees are already quite ready to bloom.

Kuindzhi built the composition of the picture in such a way that the viewer’s gaze follows the river and soon finds himself in the background, deep in the misty forest, which dissolves into infinity. The sky in a special way influences the mood of the picture: it adds light, lightness.

The painting by Arkhip Kuindzhi is distinguished by its tenderness and at the same time natural colors. Very believably, the artist depicted the very beginning of spring in central Russia. Competently and very carefully selected shades give out the hand of a true master and professional.
